Experienced Engineer Program FAQ

What is Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) and why is this relevant to me?

Professional Engineers engaged in a professional engineering service must be registered under the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (QLD).

  • The Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland administers the Queensland Professional Engineers Act 2002 (The Act).

  • The Act provides for the registration of professional engineers to practise in Queensland.

  • It prohibits persons who are not registered from providing professional engineering services in Queensland. The only exception is for individuals who practise under the supervision of registered professional engineers registered in the same area of engineering.

What this means is that if you are an engineer providing professional engineering services in Queensland then you must be a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland(RPEQ).

What is Chartered Status and why is this important to me?

Chartered Status is a competency benchmark for professional engineers in Australia and certifies that you practice in a competent, independent and ethical manner.

Chartered Status represents the highest standards of professionalism, leadership, up-to-date expertise, quality, safety, and the ability to undertake independent practice.

What this means is that both experience and Chartered Status are important to you. In particular, Chartered Status is no longer just a competitive advantage but more so professional hygiene and recognition that demonstrates your competence and experience as an engineer.
