John introduced stormwater retention technology to Australian practice through his book ‘Storm drainage design in small urban catchments', published by ARRB, in 1986. In 1993, John established the Urban Water Resources Centre (UWRC) at the SA Institute of Technology (now University of SA) to study and demonstrate flood control, pollution control and stormwater harvesting using the principles of retention technology. The results of this research were published by John (as Editor) in 2004 as ‘WSUD: basic procedures for ‘source control' of stormwater - a Handbook for Australian practice'. This book provides the course notes for the EEA Stormwater Management - Source Control short course.

Bruce focuses on the engineering practice aspects of electrical engineering and forensic applications to present material which is relevant to designers, managers, consultants and other related people.
