Stephen Durkin is the CEO of Engineers Australia, the professional association for the advancement of engineering and professional development of its members. Engineers Australia represents over 97,000 members in Australia and around the world.
Stephen has an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering and a MBA. He has previously worked with Sinclair Knight Merz, Fluor Daniel Wright and Sandwell Swan Wooster in a number of countries including Canada, Hong Kong & Thailand. Stephen was the Victorian Young Engineer of the Year in 1993.
Prior to his appointment at Engineers Australia, Stephen spent sixteen years with the National Australia Bank in a range nationally and internationally focused leadership, strategy, marketing and product development roles.
Stephen has a passion for developing innovative and customer-focused businesses with strong team leadership cultures that support staff to realise their full potential.
Sally is a consultant in management, business strategy and redesign as well as change and project management. Sally also utilises her problem solving skills to facilitate business processes and procedures to align with strategic directions and effectively manage the associated changes. She has a strong commitment to working collaboratively with clients in order to develop and implement products and services in human resources and organisational development.
Peter Godfrey is a civil engineer with extensive management experience. He commenced his professional career over thirty years ago and has progressed through engineering roles to senior management positions. Peter has extensive experience in civil contracting, construction materials, equipment supply, local government and consulting industries. He has worked for Boral, CSR, William Adams, Brambles, Coffey, and the Tasmanian government owned Civil Construction Corporation (now part of Downer EDI Works). In 1997, Peter established BAS Consulting, which provides senior management support in the areas of strategy development, change management and project delivery. Peter was the 2009 National President of Engineers Australia.
Air Vice-Marshal Julie Hammer (Retired), an electronics engineer, served in the Royal Australian Air Force for over 28 years in the fields of aircraft maintenance, technical intelligence, electronic warfare, and information and communications technology (ICT) systems. Her career included tours as Commanding Officer of the Electronic Warfare Squadron, Project Director Joint Command Support Environment, Director General Information Services, Commandant of the Australian Defence Force Academy, and Acting Chief Information Officer. Julie was the first woman to command an operational unit in the RAAF, the Electronic Warfare Squadron, and was awarded a Conspicuous Service Cross for that command. She was National President of Engineers Australia in 2008.
Managing Director of Avril Henry Pty Ltd, a management consulting business established in 2003, focusing on leadership, change management, talent management, diversity, recruitment and retention strategies. Her clients include IBM, BHP, Department of Defence, Murray Darling Basin, Leighton Contractors, Queensland Health, NSW Health, ANZ, Westpac, Astra Zeneca, UTS, Macquarie University, CPA Australia and Telstra. Avril completed a Ministerial Review for the Minister of Defence, into Recruitment and Retention in the Army, Air Force and Navy in 2006. Following the review, she was appointed as a Strategic Advisor to the Chief of Navy and joined the Navy’s People Committee. Avril was contracted by the University of Western Sydney in 2007 to develop and deliver a 3-year leadership development program for their most gifted students.
Sohail is a political scientist at Tamkang University, Taipei (Graduate Institute of Futures Studies), Adjunct Professor, Centre for Policing, Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism, Macquarie University, Sydney and Adjunct Professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast (Faculty of Social Sciences and the Arts). Professor Inayatullah is a Fellow of the World Futures Studies Federation and the World Academy of Art and Science and on the International Advisory Council of the World Future Society, the Darwin Project, and the Lifeboat Foundation. Sohail was recently awarded the “Laurel” award for all time best futurist in 2010 by the Global Foresight Network. In 1999, Dr. Inayatullah held the UNESCO Chair at the Centre for European Studies, University of Trier, Trier, Germany and the Tamkang Chair in Futures Studies at Tamkang University, Taipei, Taiwan. He was also David Sutton Fellow, the International Management Centres Association in 1999. From 1981 to 1991, he was senior policy analyst and planner with the Hawaii Judiciary, where he coordinated the Court’s Foresight Program.
Leadership Coach and owner of Sustainable Change, Barry O'Sullivan, has provided leadership coaching to over 400 leaders in the past 11 years, following 22 years as a partner with KPMG. He also coaches leadership teams and Boards and facilitates strategic activities. His leadership workshops cover all of the competencies required of individuals leading organisations, divisions and teams and those aspiring to leadership. He brings business, coaching, acting and personality type insights and skills to all of his workshops.
Barry is a much sought after facilitator and delivers The Graduate Program in Engineering and the Experienced Engineers Program for Engineering Education in Queensland as well as Transition from Manager to Leader, Advanced Presentation Skills and Mentoring Skills nationally.
Adam is Director of Fundamental Training and Development Pty Ltd where he focuses on developing, conducting and evaluating management and personal development training for managers. He develops customised programs based on needs analysis and provides advice on the professional development of staff. Adam has mentored the management and staff of a number of State Government and business clients. He has provided recruitment, discipline and the personal and professional development of the staff of his key clients. Adam has conducted the Diploma of Management in both the human service and manufacturing sectors since 2004. He has rolled out a suite of three change management training programs across a University.
Dr Stuart Palmer is Head of The Practice at St James Ethics Centre. The Practice’s consulting and leadership and learning services help individuals to improve their ability to make good decisions and act responsibly; leaders to understand their crucial role in fostering and guiding open, effective and ethical decision making; professionals and their associations to navigate their responsibilities to clients and society; and organisations to establish a robust ethical culture where individuals are given the guidance and responsibility to support the objectives of their organisation in accordance with its values and principles.
