This five day course is for engineering in piping projects and includes the engineering, design, detail and layout of process and utility equipment, piping and instrumentation. It will also introduce engineers, designers and construction personnel to the various procedures involved in the development and engineering of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Equipment Plot Plans, Piping Arrangements and Fabrication Drawings.
This course will deliver the background required to design, engineer and complete piping engineering assignments and to complete a typical equipment layout and piping arrangement.
The Detailed Engineering of Piping Systems and Layout of Piping Systems course is a comprehensive and detailed program delivered by Engineering Education Australia on behalf of Engineers Australia and in partnership with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Technical content is adapted for our Australian audience and delivered by a first class and highly experienced international expert.
Recognised for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by Engineers Australia (EA) in accordance with EA CPD Guidelines.
Introduction
Traditionally there has been little formal training in the area of piping systems and layout of piping systems. For this reason design decisions have to be made based on practical considerations without formulae or code reinforcement. Completing piping arrangements take up the majority of hours in the design of a process plant and the designer is required to apply acceptable layout procedures. For this reason, this course will familiarise engineers, designers and construction personnel with layout, design procedures and practices involved in the location of equipment and layout of and piping systems. This includes pipe sizing, pressure drop calculations, pump and equipment sizing and selection, preparation of equipment specifications and drawings, piping specifications, instrumentation and process control as well as piping component familiarization including valves and fittings, piping hangers and supports.
The people who will attend this course are:
For engineers, designers and construction people in any area that piping is present, which may include a Refinery, Chemical, Power, Pulp and Paper, Utility etc.
At the end of this course participants will be able to:
Presenter for Detailed Engineering of Piping Systems and Layout of Piping Systems
Robert Boyle Wilson (Bob) was born in Glasgow, Scotland, with engineering in his blood. He was employed as an apprentice draftsman where he studied part time to attain a Higher National Certificate and worked toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde University. He has been involved in the piping business since 1963, working with a number of large petro-chemical and processing companies in Canada, the U.S. and Europe as a Piping Designer/Engineer, Project Engineer and Piping Stress Analyst. His experience covers Piping Stress Analysis, Piping Design and Equipment Layout, Pipe Sizing, Specification Writing, and Pump Selection and has been involved both at the design and plant supervisory levels. As a Professor at Sheridan College in Ontario he taught engineering subjects in the Mechanical Engineering Department, and has conducted many Piping Design, Engineering, Pipe Support, Stress Analysis courses and seminars since 1974. He is currently a member of the B31.1 Power Piping Code Committee Sub group on Design and instructs ASME Piping Courses throughout North America as well as the Middle East, Europe, Australia and South East Asia.
